INTRODUCTION TO THE

BOOK OF SECOND CORINTHIANS

WHO WROTE:  Paul; Second Corinthians 1:1.

WHAT TIME PERIOD IS COVERED:  37 A.D. - 57 A.D.  According to Second Corinthians 11:32, here is my note there, “Aretas the king” = King Aretus IV died in about 40 A.D. and was succeeded by his son Malichus II.  Therefore, this places Paul in Corinth about this time.  Josephus, in his work, “Antiquities,” 19.283, tells us that a “Jewish ethnarch” reigned over the region at the time, meaning that Aretus was considered to be the ruler, with this “ethnarch” as his understudy,  i.e. using his governing principles.

WHEN WRITTEN:  About 57 A.D.

INTRODUCTION:  See My First Corinthians Introduction.
