EGW ON
JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH

“As penitent sinners, contrite before God, discern Christ’s atonement in their behalf, and accept this atonement as their only hope in this life and the future life, their sins are pardoned.  This is justification by faith.  Every believing soul is to conform his or her will entirely to God’s will, and keep in a state of repentance and contrition, exercising faith in the atoning merits of the Redeemer, and advancing from strength to strength, from glory to glory.  Pardon and justification are one and the same thing.”  CTr:150.3; FLB:116.4.

“Several have written to me, inquiring if the message of justification by faith is the third angel’s message, and I have answered, ‘It is the third angel’s message in verity.’ "  Ev:190.3; Review and Herald, April 1, 1890.

“What is justification by faith?  It is the work of God in laying the glory of man in the dust, and doing for man that which it is not in his power to do for himself.”  FLB:111.2.

“The apostle James saw that dangers would arise in presenting the subject of justification by faith, and he labored to show that genuine faith cannot exist without corresponding works.”  FLB:115.5.

“There is danger in regarding justification by faith as placing merit on faith.  When you take the righteousness of Christ as a free gift you are justified freely through the redemption of Christ.”  FW:25.2.

“As the penitent sinner, contrite before God, discerns Christ's atonement in his behalf and accepts this atonement as his only hope in this life and the future life, his sins are pardoned.  This is justification by faith.”  FW:103.1.

“There is a work to be done for the young by which their minds will be impressed and molded by the sanctifying truth of God.  It is my sincere wish for our young people that they find the true meaning of justification by faith, and the perfection of  character that will prepare them for eternal life.”  MYP:289.1.

“Justification by faith is to many a mystery.  A sinner is justified by God when he repents of his sins.  He sees Jesus upon the cross of Calvary. . . He looks to the atoning Sacrifice as his only hope, through repentance toward God -- because the Laws of His government have been broken -- and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ as the One who can save and cleanse the sinner from every transgression.”  OHC:52.2.

“As the penitent sinner, contrite before God, discerns Christ's atonement in his behalf, and accepts this atonement as his only hope in this life and the future life, his sins are pardoned.  This is justification by faith.  Every believing soul is to conform his will entirely to God’s Will, and keep in a state of repentance and contrition, exercising faith in the atoning merits of the Redeemer and advancing from strength to strength, from glory to glory.”  RC:74.2.
