A) BEFORE WE BEGIN

 

 

Before we begin, consider this statement:  “But Jesus reproved Thomas for his unbelief.  He said to him, Thomas, because thou hast seen Me, thou hast believed; blessed are they that have not seen and yet have believed.  So, I saw, that those who had no experience in the first and second angels’ messages must receive them from those who had an experience, and followed down through the messages.  As Jesus was crucified, so I saw that these messages have been crucified.  And as the disciples declared that there was salvation in no other name under Heaven, given among men; so, also, should the servants of God faithfully and fearlessly declare that those who embrace but a part of the truths connected with the third message must gladly embrace the first, second and third messages as God has given them, or have no part nor lot in the matter.”  1SG:75.  Salvation is lost.

 

 

B) THE FIRST ANGEL’S MESSAGE AS FOUND IN = VERSES 6 & 7

 

 

WHEN WAS THE FIRST ANGEL’S MESSAGE GIVEN = ADVENT MOVEMENT OF 1840-1844 (1843) = “The prophecy of the first angel’s message, brought to view in Revelation 14, found its fulfillment in the Advent movement of 1840-1844.”  4SP:222; See also 1SG:133.

 

WHAT IS THE REASON FOR THE FIRST ANGEL’S MESSAGE = “It was to separate the Church of Christ from the corrupting influence of the world that the first angel’s message was given.” 4SP:231.

 

WHERE WERE THE PEOPLE OF GOD WHEN THE FIRST ANGEL GAVE HIS MESSAGE = THE PEOPLE OF GOD ARE IN BABYLON = “At the proclamation of the first angel’s message, the people of God were [“were,” but not now?] in Babylon,” 4SP:239.

 

IF THAT IS TRUE, WHO IS THE FIRST ANGEL’S MESSAGE GIVEN TO = THE PEOPLE OF GOD = See quote above.

 

WHAT IS THE MESSAGE OF THE FIRST ANGEL = “The message proclaimed by the angel flying in the midst of Heaven {Rev. 14:6 = the First Angel} is the Everlasting Gospel,” 1MR:44.

 

WHO IS THE FIRST ANGEL = A CLASS OF FAITHFUL MEN = “The angel {First Angel} represented in prophecy as delivering this message, symbolizes a class of faithful men, who, obedient to the promptings of God’s Spirit and the teachings of His Word, proclaim this warning to the inhabitants of earth.”  4SP:199.

 

Notes Needed Before We Discuss The Second Angel’s Message:

 

“The wide-spread movement under the proclamation of the first message, answered to the going forth of the virgins, while the passing of the time of expectation, the disappointment, and the delay, were represented by the tarrying of the bridegroom {That would mean that the next message is given during THE SLEEPING TIME}.”  4SP:243.

 

Note for the MIDNIGHT CRY:  “The preaching of the first message in 1843, {is joined and followed by that, see 1SG:140 & 1SG:194 quotes below} and of the midnight cry in 1844,” 4SP:247.

 

 

C) THE SECOND ANGEL’S MESSAGE AS FOUND IN = VERSE 8

 

 

WHEN WAS THE SECOND ANGEL’S MESSAGE GIVEN = IN THE SUMMER OF 1844 = “When the churches spurned the counsel of God by rejecting the Advent message {THAT WOULD BE THE FIRST ANGELS MESSAGE}, the Lord rejected them.  The first angel was followed by a second, proclaiming, ‘Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.’ {Rev. 14:8}.  This message was understood by Adventists to be an announcement of the moral fall of the churches in consequence of their rejection of the first message.  The proclamation, ‘Babylon is fallen,’ was given in the summer of 1844, and as the result, about fifty thousand withdrew from these churches.  The term Babylon, derived from Babel, and signifying confusion, is applied in Scripture to the various forms of {BABYLON EQUALS} false or apostate religion.”  4SP:232.

 

WHO WAS THE SECOND ANGEL’S MESSAGE GIVEN TO = PROTESTANT CHURCHES = 4SP:232-233continued:  ”[232] But the message announcing the fall of Babylon must apply to some religious body that was once pure, and has become corrupt.  It cannot be the Romish church which is here meant; for that church has been in a fallen condition for many centuries.  But how appropriate [233] the figure as applied to the Protestant churches, all professing to derive their doctrines from the Bible, yet divided into almost innumerable sects.”

 

WHY WAS THE MIDNIGHT CRY GIVEN = TO GIVE POWER TO THE SECOND ANGEL’S MESSAGE = “The midnight cry was given to give power to the second angel’s message.”  1SG:140.  “. . .the midnight cry joined the second angel’s message in 1844.”  1SG:194.

 

WHAT IS THE REASON FOR THE SECOND ANGEL’S MESSAGE = SOME PEOPLE OF GOD ARE STILL IN THE CHURCH’S / ADDITIONAL MENTION OF CORRUPTION’S (See quote below, PLUS) = “In this Scripture the announcement of the fall of Babylon, as made by the second angel, is repeated, with the additional mention of the corruption’s which have been entering the churches since 1844.  A terrible condition of the religious world is here described.”  4SP:421.

 

WHERE ARE THE PEOPLE OF GOD WHEN THE SECOND ANGEL GIVES HIS MESSAGE = PEOPLE OF GOD ARE IN AND OUT OF BABYLON = “Of Babylon at this time it is declared, ‘Her sins have reached unto Heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.’  She has filled up the measure of her guilt, and destruction is about to fall upon her.  But God still has a people in Babylon {thus the reason for the call}; and before the visitation of His judgments, these faithful ones must be called out, that they ‘partake not of her sins, and receive not of her plagues.’  Hence the movement {WHAT movement? – The movement of the “loud cry,” and the “latter rain”} symbolized by the angel coming down from Heaven, lightening the earth with his glory, and crying mightily with a strong voice {WHICH IS THE “LOUD CRY” OF THE THIRD ANGEL}, announcing the sins of Babylon.  In connection with his message{The Second Angel’s Message} the call is heard, ‘Come out of her, My people.’  As these warnings join the third angel’s message, it swells to a loud cry.”  4SP:422; see also 1SG:194.

 

Note Needed Before Proceeding:  “[189] Satan has taken full possession of the churches as a body. . . [190] I saw that since Jesus had left the Holy Place of the Heavenly Sanctuary, and had entered within the second vale {The Most Holy Place}, the churches were left as were the Jews {THIS MEANS IN 1844},” 1SG:189-190.

 

 

D) THE THIRD ANGEL’S MESSAGE IF FOUND IN = VERSES 9-12

 

 

Note:  “As the ministration of Jesus closed in the Holy place, and He passed into the Holiest, and stood before the Ark containing the Law of God, He sent another mighty angel {Third Angel} to earth with the third message.”  1SG:162.

 

“The message of the fall of Babylon, as given by the second angel, is repeated, with the additional mention of the corruptions which have been entering the churches since 1844.  The work of this angel comes in at the right time to join in the last great work of the third angel’s message as it swells to a loud cry.”  EW:277.

 

WHAT IS THE THIRD ANGEL’S MESSAGE = LAST MESSAGE OF MERCY / TESTING MESSAGE / THE ENTIRE GOSPLE / PROCLAIMS THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD = “When Christ entered the Most Holy Place of the Heavenly Sanctuary to perform the closing work of the atonement, He committed to His servants the last message of mercy {Third Angel’s Message} to be given to the world.  Such is the warning of the third angel of Revelation 14.  Immediately following its proclamation, the Son of man is seen by the prophet Coming in glory to reap the harvest of the earth.  As foretold in the Scriptures, the ministration of Christ in the Most Holy Place began at the termination of the prophetic days in 1844.”  4SP:273.

 

In a side note:  “To make plain natural law, and urge the obedience of it, is the work that accompanies the third angel’s message to prepare a people for the coming of the Lord.”  3T:161.2

 

“The first and second angels’ messages are united and made complete in the third. . . Many {HOW MANY IS MANY; WHO ARE THEY?} who went forth to meet the Bridegroom under the messages of the first and second angels, refused the third, the last testing message to be given to the world, and a similar position will be taken when the last call is made {This shows that the LOUD CRY is the last “message” given to the world}.”  RH, October 31, 1899; 16MR:269-270.

 

“The whole of the gospel is embraced in the third angel’s message.”  1MR:58.

 

“I was shown that the third angel, proclaiming the Commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, represents the people who receive this message and raise the voice of warning to the world, {WHICH IS} to keep the Commandments of God,” 1T:77.

 

“. . . the third angel’s message, has been fulfilled and will continue to be present truth till the close of time.”  RH, August 19, 1890.

 

WHO WAS THE THIRD ANGEL’S MESSAGE GIVEN TO = THE DOOMED CHURCHES = “Servants of God, endowed with power from on high, with their faces lighted up, and shining with holy consecration, went forth fulfilling their work, and proclaiming the message {The Third Angel’s Message} from Heaven.  Souls that were scattered all through the religious bodies answered to the call, and the precious were hurried out of the doomed churches, as Lot was hurried out of Sodom before her destruction.”  1SG:196.

 

WHO GIVES THE THIRD ANGELS MESSAGE = HIS SERVENTS (Mostly SDA’s) = “He Commands His servants to present the last invitation of mercy {THE THIRD ANGELS MESSAGE} to the world.”  4SP:428.  Plus the quote above.  NOTE:  That this message is given to the “world.”

 

WHERE ARE THE PEOPLE OF GOD WHEN THE THIRD ANGEL’S MEESAGE IS GIVEN = IN THE TRUE CHURCH AND IN BABYLON = See two quotes above.

 

“In this fearful time {THE TIME OF THE THIRD ANGEL’S MESSAGE}, just before Christ is to Come the Second Time, God’s faithful preachers will have to bear a still more pointed testimony {The Third Angel’s Message} than was borne by John the Baptist {His Message was as Luther’s = ERRORS IN THE CHURCH}.  A responsible, important work is before them; and those who speak smooth things, God will not acknowledge as His shepherds.  A fearful woe is upon them.”  1T:321.

 

WHAT IS THE REASON FOR THE THIRD ANGEL’S MESSAGE = SEPARATION OF RIGHTEOUS FROM THE UNRIGHTEOUS = “I then saw the third angel.  Said my accompanying angel, ‘Fearful is his work. Awful is his mission.  He is the angel that is to select the wheat from the tares, and seal, or bind, the wheat from the Heavenly garner.’ ”  EW:118; 1BIO:290; 5MR:425.  (Read Rev. 14:14-20).

 

THIRD ANGEL = REASON FOR = “The message of the fall of Babylon, as given by the second angel, is again given {THIS IS THE THIRD ANGELS MESSAGE}, with the addition of the corruptions which have been entering the churches since 1844.”  1SG:194; 4SP:421.

 

“. . .by rejecting the two former messages, they can see no light in the third angel’s message, which shows the way into the Most Holy place.”  1SG:171.

 

Note:  “When the third message closes, mercy no longer pleads for the guilty inhabitants of the earth.  The people of God have accomplished their work; they have received the latter rain, or the refreshing from the presence of the Lord, and they are prepared for the trying hour before them {the Time of Trouble}.”  4SP:431.

 

 

E) THE LOUD CRY = REVELATION, CHAPTER 18

 

Since the “Loud Cry” is related (basically saying the same messages), I’m including it here.

 

WHERE ARE THE PEOPLE OF GOD WHEN THE LOUD CRY MESSAGE IS GIVEN = PEOPLE OF GOD ARE IN AND OUT OF BABYLON = “[194] This message {THE LOUD CRY MESSAGE} seemed to be an addition to the third message, and joined it, as the midnight cry joined the second angel’s message in 1844.  The glory of God rested upon the patient, waiting saints, and they fearlessly gave the last solemn warning {The Loud Cry}.  Proclaiming the fall of Babylon, and calling upon God’s people to come out of her; that they might escape her fearful doom. [195] The light that was shed upon the waiting ones penetrated every where, and those who had any light in the churches, who had not heard and rejected the three messages, answered to the call, and left the fallen churches. . . The third message was to do its work; all were to be tested upon it, and the precious ones were to be called out from the religious bodies.”  1SG:194-195.

 

IN ALL OF THESE MESSAGES, WHO WERE/ARE THEY GIVEN TO = THE DOOMED CHURCHES!!!  Only the Third Angle’s Message goes “to the world,” 4SP:428.  However, once it swells to a “Loud Cry” it is only to go to “the religious bodies,” 1SG:195.
