A) INTRODUCTION
Better known to the Theologians as “Eschatology,” which is a BIG word meaning, “The Study of the Last Things/Days.”

A FEW STATEMENTS CONCERNING THE “LAST DAYS.”
“There are in many churches skepticism and infidelity in the interpretation of the Scriptures. Many, very many, are questioning the verity and truth of the Scriptures. Human reasoning and the imaginings of the human heart are undermining the inspiration of the Word of God, and that which should be received as granted, is surrounded with a cloud of mysticism. Nothing stands out in clear and distinct lines, upon rock bottom. This is one of the marked signs of the last days.” 1SM:15.2.
“One of the sins that constitute one of the signs of the last days, is that professed Christians are lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God.” 2T:144.2; MYP:84.1.
“For the first time I saw men and women dancing to exciting music -- the gentlemen and ladies engaged in a round dance. The ladies give themselves to the gentlemen whose arm encircled their waist and hugged close to these men they were performing [with]. All I could think of was a service to the devil, worshiping their master as virtually and fully as we in religious service worship the God of Heaven. {3LtMs, Lt 42, 1878, par. 8}
“It was to me a most solemn scene because one of significance, showing the fulfilment of one of the specifications of the signs of the last days,” 3LtMs, Letter 42, 1878, paragraphs 7-8.
“Marriages have been ill-assorted in some cases, immature in others. Christ has warned us that this state of things would exist prior to His Second Appearing. It constitutes one of the signs of the last days. A similar state of things existed before the Flood. The minds of the people were bewitched upon the subject of marriage. When there is so much uncertainty, so great danger, there is no reason why we should make great parade or display, even if the parties were perfectly suited to each other; but that remains to be tested.” 4T:515.2.
“I speak the things I know; I testify to you the things which I have seen when I say there is among our youth, among educated young men of professedly Christian parents, a grievous offense in the sight of God, which is so common that it constitutes one of the signs of the last days. It is so full of evil tendencies as to call for decided exposure and denunciation. It is the sin of regarding with levity or contempt their early vows of consecration to God. In a religious interest the Holy Spirit moved upon them to take their stand wholly under the bloodstained banner of Prince Immanuel. But the parents were so far from God themselves, so busily engaged in worldly business, or so filled with doubts and dissatisfaction in regard to their own religious experience, that they were wholly unfitted to give them instruction. These youth, in their inexperience, needed a wise, firm hand to point out the right way and to bar with counsel and restraint the wrong way. {5T:40.2}
“A religious life should be shown to be in marked contrast to a life of worldliness and pleasure seeking. He who would be the disciple of Christ must take up the cross and bear it after Jesus. Our Saviour lived not to please Himself, neither must we. High spiritual attainments will require entire consecration to God. But this instruction has not been given the youth because it would contradict the life of the parents.” 5T:40.2-3.
Speaking of teachers: “In his connection with the youth he has had to meet that spirit of rebellion and defiance which the apostle declares to be one of the signs of the last days.” 5T:91.1.
“The spirit of intense worldliness that now exists, the disposition to acknowledge no higher claim than that of self-gratification, constitutes one of the signs of the last days.” 5T:365.3.
“. . . the divorces and the miserable marriages -- we can understand what Christ meant when He said, ‘Married and given in marriage,’ which He specified as signs of the last days.” 17LtMs, Manuscript 233, 1902, paragraph 11.
“The majority of the marriages of our time and the way in which they are conducted make them one of the signs of the last days.” AH:71.2.
“The marriage relation is holy, but in this degenerate age it covers vileness of every description. It is abused and has become a crime which now constitutes one of the signs of the last days, even as marriages, managed as they were previous to the Flood, were then a crime.” AH:121.5.
“Having before us the picture of the world demoralization upon the point of fashion how dare professed Christians follow in the path of the worldling? Shall we appear to sanction these demoralizing fashions by adopting them? Many do adopt the fashion of the world, but it is because Christ is not formed within them, the hope of glory. Luxurious living, extravagant dressing, carried to such an extent as to constitute one of the signs of the last days. {BEcho, August 16, 1897, paragraph 5}
“Pride and vanity are manifested everywhere; but those who are inclined to look into the mirror to admire themselves, will have little inclination to look into the Law of God, the great moral mirror. This idolatry of dress destroys all that is humble, meek and lovely in character. It consumes the precious hours that should be devoted to meditation, to searching the heart, to the prayerful study of God’s Word.” BEcho, August 16, 1897, paragraphs 5-6.
“One of the signs of the ‘last days’ is the disobedience of children to their parents. Second Timothy 3:2.” CG:229.1;FLB:269.5; RH, September 19, 1854.
“In the world gigantic monopolies will be formed. Men will bind themselves together in unions that will wrap them in the folds of the enemy. A few men will combine to grasp all the means to be obtained in certain lines of business. Trades unions will be formed, and those who refuse to join these unions will be marked men. {Mar:182.4}
“These unions are one of the signs of the last days. Men are binding up in bundles ready to be burned. They may be Church members, but while they belong to these unions, they cannot possibly keep the Commandments of God; for to belong to these unions means to disregard the entire Decalogue.” Mar:182.4-5.
“Luxurious living, extravagant dressing, is carried to such an extent as to constitute one of the signs of the last days.” MYP:359.3.
“There is much false religion even among children. Many who profess to be followers of Christ are in the broad road to perdition; and this is one of the signs of the last days.” SSW, October 1, 1885, paragraph 7.
“Satan is constantly busy to hurry inexperienced youth into a marriage alliance until marriage is abused, and is a crime now which constitutes one of the signs of the last days; even as marriages were a crime the way they were managed previous to the flood. The less we glory in the marriages which are now taking place, the better.” T17:71.4.
“Satan is moving with his power from beneath to inspire men to form alliances and confederacies of evil against light and against the Word of God. Infidelity, papacy, and semi-papacy are coming in close and powerful companionship with professed Christianity. The low views of inspiration, the exalting of human ideas from men called wise, are placing human talent above the Divine wisdom and forms, and science so-called above the power of vital godliness. These are the signs of the last days.” TMK:345.3.
“And the man who allows his wife to occupy the second place in his affections is dishonoring himself and his God. This thing is one of the signs of the last days.” TSB:200.5.

The Coming of Christ here described is not His Second Coming to the earth. He comes to the Ancient of days in Heaven to receive dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, which will be given Him at the close of His mediatorial work. It is this coming, and not His Second Advent to the earth, that was foretold in prophecy to take place at the termination of the 2300 days, in 1844.” 4SP:307-308; GC:479-480.

“Of Babylon at this time it is declared, ‘Her sins have reached unto Heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.’ [Rev. 18:5]. She has filled up the measure of her guilt, and destruction is about to fall upon her. But God still has a people in Babylon; and before the visitation of His judgments [GOD’S PLAGUES; under NUMBER 20], these faithful ones must be called out, that they ‘partake not of her sins, and receive not of her plagues.’ [Rev. 18:4.] Hence the movement symbolized by the angel coming down from Heaven, lightening the earth with His glory, and crying mightily with a strong voice [LOUD CRY; NUMBER 3], announcing the sins of Babylon. “Heretofore those who presented the truths of the third message have often been regarded as mere alarmists. . . But as the question of enforcing Sunday observance is widely agitated, the event so long doubted and disbelieved is seen to be approaching, and the third message produces an effect which it could not have had before.” 4SP:423; GC:605.
“They hoped, by the example of a pure Christian life, to lead the people back to the doctrines of the Bible. But the Spirit of God came upon them as it came upon Elijah, and they could not refrain from preaching the plain utterances of the Bible, -- doctrines which they had been reluctant to present. They were impelled to zealously declare the truth, and the danger which threatened souls. The words which the Lord gave them they uttered, fearless of consequences, and the people were compelled to hear the warning. Thus will the message of the third angel be proclaimed. As the time comes [FUTURE TENSE] for the loud cry to be given, the Lord will work through humble instruments, leading the minds of those who consecrate themselves to His service.” 4SP:424; GC:606.
“Thus the work will go on until the third message has done its work, and at [then comes] the loud cry of the third angel, these agents will have an opportunity to receive the truth, and some of them will be converted, and endure with the saints through the time of trouble. When Jesus leaves the Most Holy [then comes the time of trouble], His restraining Spirit is withdrawn from rulers and people. They are left to the control of evil angels. Then such laws will be made by the counsel and direction of Satan, that unless time should be very short [time of trouble period will be short], no flesh could be saved.” 4bSG:44.

“When [FUTURE TENSE] the loud cry shall be given, it will arrest the attention of these leading men through whom the Lord is now working, and some of them will accept it, and will stand [FUTURE TENSE] with the people of God through the time of trouble.” 4SP:429.

“I saw that God had honest children among the nominal Adventists, and the fallen churches, and ministers and people will yet be called out from these churches, before the plagues shall be poured out, and they will gladly embrace the truth. Satan knows this, and before the loud cry of the third angel, raises an excitement in these religious bodies [“LOUD CRY” BEING GIVEN, JUST NOT HAVING ITS TOTAL EFFECT], that those who have rejected the truth may think God is with them.” 1SG:172.
“The time of test is just upon us, for the loud cry of the third angel has already begun in the revelation of the righteousness of Christ, the sin-pardoning Redeemer. This is the beginning of the light of the angel whose glory shall fill the whole earth.” RH, November 22, 1892.
“The Angel of Revelation Eighteen [LOUD CRY] came down to do his work and was ridiculed, criticized, rejected, and laughed at. It was called fanaticism. When this message he brings again, swells into the loud cry, it will be condemned by the majority. Had this message been received they could have been in paradise two years latter[speaking of 1888].” GC Bulletin, 1893.
“An angel answered, ‘It is the latter rain. The refreshing from the presence of the Lord. The loud cry of the Third Angel.’ ” RH, December 31, 1857.

HOWEVER: “The substitution of the laws of men for the Law of God, the exaltation, by merely human authority, of Sunday in place of the Bible Sabbath, is the last act in the drama. When this substitution becomes universal, God will reveal Himself. He will arise in His majesty to shake terribly the earth. He will come out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the world for their iniquity, and the earth shall disclose her blood and shall no more cover her slain.” 7T:141.
“The powers of earth, uniting to war against the Commandments of God, will decree that ‘all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond’ (Revelation 13:16), shall conform to the customs of the church by the observance of the false sabbath.” GC:604.
“The obligation of the Fourth Commandment has never been set before them in its true light. Jesus reads every heart, and tries every motive. The decree [DEATH DECREE; NOT HERE YET] is not to be urged upon the people blindly. Every one is to have sufficient light to make his decision intelligently. The Sabbath will be the great test of loyalty; for it is the point of truth especially controverted.” 4SP:423; GC:605.
4SP:281-282 (see also Ev:234): “[281] The change of the Sabbath is the sign, or mark, of the authority of the Romish Church. Those who, understanding the claims of the Fourth Commandment, choose to observe the false in place of the true Sabbath, are thereby paying homage to that power by which alone it is commanded. The change in the Fourth Commandment is the change pointed out in the prophecy, and the keeping of the counterfeit sabbath is the reception of the mark. But Christians of past generations observed the first day, supposing that they were keeping the Bible Sabbath, and there are in the churches of today many who honestly believe that Sunday is the Sabbath of Divine [282]
“appointment. None of these have received the mark of the beast. There are true Christians in every church, not excepting the Roman Catholic communion. The test upon this question does not come until Sunday observance is enforced by law, and the world is enlightened concerning the obligation of the true Sabbath. Not until the issue is thus plainly set before the people, and they are brought to choose between the Commandments of God and the commandments of men, will those who continue in transgression receive the mark of the beast.”
“It will be declared that the nation is offending God by the violation of the Sunday-Sabbath, that this sin has brought calamities which will not cease until Sunday observance shall be strictly enforced DEATH DECREE WILL BE GIVEN; BUT NOT ENFORCED], and that those who present the claims of the Fourth Commandment, thus destroying reverence for Sunday, are troublers of the nation, preventing its restoration to Divine favor and temporal prosperity.” 4SP:408.
“Messages will come from the spirits [WHO GIVES THE MESSAGE? -- SPIRITUALISM] declaring that God has sent them to inform the rejecters of Sunday that they are in error, and that the laws of the land should be obeyed as the Law of God.” 4SP:409.
“[409] Though they blind their own eyes to the fact, they are now adopting a course which will lead to the persecution [DEATH DECREE] of those who conscientiously refuse to do what the rest of the Christian world are doing, and acknowledge the claims of the papal Sabbath. The dignitaries of Church and State will unite to bribe, persuade, or compel [DEATH DECREE NOT ISSUED YET] all classes to honor the Sunday. . . [410] legislators will yield to the popular demand for a law enforcing Sunday observance.” 4SP:409-410.
“The movement for Sunday enforcement becomes more bold and decided. The law is invoked [SUNDAY LAW] against commandment-keepers.” 4SP:425.
“As the defenders of truth refuse to honor the Sunday-Sabbath. . .” 4SP:426.
“While the observance of the false sabbath in compliance with the law of the state [DEATH DECREE ISSUED], contrary to the Fourth Commandment, will be an avowal of allegiance to a power that is in opposition to God, the keeping of the true Sabbath, in obedience to God’s Law, is an evidence of loyalty to the Creator. While one class, by accepting the sign of submission to earthly powers, receive the mark of the beast, the other choosing the token of allegiance to Divine authority, receive the seal of God.” GC:605.
“But as the question of enforcing Sunday observance is widely agitated, the event so long doubted and disbelieved is seen to be approaching, and the third message will produce an effect which it could not have had before.” GC:605.3.
“The church appeals to the strong arm of civil power, and, in this work, papists and Protestants unite. As the movement for Sunday enforcement becomes more bold and decided, the law will be invoked [SUNDAY LAW] against Commandment keepers.” GC:607.
“The mark of the beast will be urged upon us [SDA’s]. . . In this time the gold will be separated from the dross in the Church.” 5T:81.
“By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the Law of God [NOT GIVEN YET], our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When [NOT YET] Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when [NOT YET] she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and Republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan [SATAN’S PLAGUES] and that the end is near. As the approach of the Roman armies was a sign to the disciples of the impending destruction of Jerusalem, so may this apostasy be a sign to us that the limit of God’s forbearance is reached, that the measure of our nation’s iniquity is full, and that the angel of mercy is about to take her flight, never to return. The people of God will then [“THEN” NOT YET] be plunged into those scenes of affliction and distress which prophets have described as the time of Jacob’s trouble.” 5T:451.

All who prove their loyalty to God by observing His Law, and refusing to accept a spurious sabbath, will rank under the banner of the Lord God Jehovah, and will receive the seal of the Living God. Those who yield the truth of Heavenly origin, and accept the Sunday sabbath, will receive the mark of the beast. What need will there be of the solemn warning not to receive the mark of the beast, when all the saints of God are sealed and ticketed for the New Jerusalem?”
“[700] You say that Anna’s visions place the forming of the image of the beast after probation closes. This is not so. You claim to believe the testimonies; let them set you right on this point. The Lord has shown me clearly that the image of the beast will be formed [SUNDAY LAW; under NUMBER 4] before probation closes [CLOSED OF PROBATION; under NUMBER 12]; for it is to be the great test for the people of God, by which their eternal destiny will be decided. Your position is such a jumble of inconsistencies that but few will be deceived.

“The mark of the beast is the papal sabbath, which has been accepted by the world in the place of the day of God’s appointment. {Ev. 234.1}
“No one has yet received the mark of the beast. The testing time has not yet come. There are true Christians in every church, not excepting the Roman Catholic communion. None are condemned until they have had the light and have seen the obligation of the Fourth Commandment. But when the decree shall go forth enforcing the counterfeit sabbath, and the loud cry of the third angel shall warn men against the worship of the beast and his image, the line will be clearly drawn between the false and the true.” Evangelism 234.1-234.2.
Mar:211: “The living righteous will receive the seal of God prior to the close of probation. The sign, or seal, of God is revealed in the observance of the seventh-day Sabbath, the Lord’s memorial of creation. . . The mark of the beast is the opposite of this -- the observance of the first day of the week. “Men of faith and prayer will be constrained to go forth with holy zeal, declaring the words which God gives them. The sins of Babylon will be laid open. The fearful results of a union of Church and State, the inroads of Spiritualism, the stealthy but rapid progress of the papal power, -- all will be unmasked. . . In amazement they hear the testimony that Babylon is the Church, fallen because of her errors and sins, because of her rejection of the truth sent to her from Heaven [WHICH CHURCH HAS HAD “THE TRUTH SENT TO HER FROM HEAVEN?”]. 4SP:424; GC:606-607.
“As the storm approaches [NOT HERE YET], a large class [WHO ARE THEY?] who have professed faith in the third message [WHICH CHURCH OR CLASS OF BELIEVERS HAS “PROFESSED FAITH IN THE THIRD MESSAGE?”], abandon their position [WHAT DO THEY DO?], and take refuge under the banner of the powers of darkness. By uniting with the world and partaking of its spirit, they come to view matters in nearly the same light; and when the test is brought, they are prepared to choose the easy, popular side. Men of talent and pleasing address, who once rejoiced in the truth [AGAIN, WHO ARE THESE THAT “ONCE REJOICE IN THE TRUTH” THAT THEY “ONCE” HAD?], employ their powers to deceive and mislead souls. They become the most bitter enemies of their former brethren [THIS MAKES THEM FORMER WHAT’S?]. When Sabbath-keepers [WHO ARE THESE BELIEVERS] are brought before the courts to answer for their faith, these apostates [WHO AND WHAT ARE “APOSTATES” WHO WERE “ONCE” BELIEVERS OF THE SAME FAITH] are the most efficient agents of Satan [THE EX-CHURCH BELIEVERS BECOME BABYLONIANS] to misrepresent and accuse them, and by false reports and insinuations to stir up the rulers against them.” 4SP:426; GC:608.
(6) Little Time Of Trouble: EW:85-86 -- Matthew 24:7 = “famines, and pestilences.” This is as opposed to “Jacob’s Time of Trouble,” Jeremiah 30:7. See possibly Nehemiah 9:27; Job 3:26; Psalm 20:1; Ezekiel 7:7.
“[85] On page 33 is given the following: ‘I saw that the holy Sabbath is, and will be, the separating wall between the true Israel of God and unbelievers; and that the Sabbath is the great question to unite the hearts of God’s dear, waiting saints. I saw that God had children who do not see and keep the Sabbath. They have not rejected the light upon it. And at the commencement [“AT THE COMMENCE-MENT?” DIFFERENT “TIME OF TROUBLE;” READ ON] of the time of trouble, we were filled with the Holy Ghost as we went forth and proclaimed the Sabbath more fully.’ This view was given in 1847 when there were but very few of the Advent brethren observing the Sabbath, and of these but few supposed that its observance was of sufficient importance to draw a line between the people of God and unbelievers. Now the fulfilment of that view is beginning to be seen. ‘The commencement of that time of trouble,’ here mentioned does not refer to the time when the plagues shall begin to be poured out, but to a short period [CLOSE OF PROBATION FOR ADVENTISTS?] just before they are poured out, while Christ is in the Sanctuary. At that time, while the work of salvation is closing, trouble will be coming on the earth, and the nations will be angry, yet held in check so as not to prevent the work of the [86]
“third angel. At that time the ‘latter rain,’ [FUTURE TENSE] or refreshing from the presence of the Lord, will come, to give power to the loud voice [FUTURE TENSE] of the third angel, and prepare the saints to stand in the period when the seven last plagues shall be poured out [FUTURE TENSE].” EW:85-86.
(7) Latter Rain: 4SP:429 (431) -- Hosea 6:3; Joel 2:23; Acts 2:17; 3:19.
“The opposition of the enemies of truth will be restrained that the third message may do its work. When the loud cryshall be given [FUTURE TENSE], it will arrest the attention of these leading men through whom the Lord is now working, and some of them will accept it, and will stand [FUTURE TENSE] with the people of God through the time of trouble. The angel who unites [THIS IS THE LOUD CRY] in the proclamation of the third message is to lighten the whole earth with his glory. A work of world-wide extent [LATTER RAIN?] and unwonted power is here brought to view.” 4SP:429; GC:611.
“The work will be similar to that of the Day of Pentecost. As the ‘former rain’ was given, in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at the opening of the gospel, to cause the upspringing of the precious seed, so the ‘latter rain’ will be given at its close for the ripening of the harvest.” GC:611.
“The prophecies which were fulfilled in the outpouring of the former rain at the opening of the gospel are again to be fulfilled in the latter rain at its close. Here are ‘the times of refreshing’ to which the apostle Peter looked forward when he said: ‘Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; and He shall send Jesus.’ Acts 3:19, 20.” GC:611.3.
“When the third message closes [FUTURE TENSE], mercy no longer pleads for the guilty inhabitants of the earth. The people of God have accomplished their work; they have received [PAST TENSE] the latter rain, or the refreshing from the presence of the Lord, and they are prepared for the trying hour [FUTURE TENSE FOR THE TIME OF TROUBLE] before them.” 4SP:431; GC:613.
“I have no specific time of which to speak when the outpouring of the Holy Spirit [TIME OF TROUBLE; LATTER RAIN] will take place -- when the mighty angel will come down from Heaven, and unite with the third angel in closing up the work for this world; my message is that our only safety is in being ready for the Heavenly refreshing [LATTER RAIN], having our lamps trimmed and burning.” RH March 29, 1892.
“As the third message swells to a loud cry, and as great power and glory attend the closing work, the faithful people of God will partake of that glory. It is the latter rain which revives and strengthens them to pass through the time of trouble.” 1T:353; RH May 27, 1862.
“At that time, while the work of salvation is closing [NOT CLOSED YET], trouble will be [FUTURE TENSE; TIME OF TROUBLE NOT YET] coming on the earth, and the nations will be angry, yet held in check so as not to prevent the work of the third angel [STILL GOING ON]. “Miracles will be wrought, the sick will be healed, and signs and wonders will follow the believers (9A = ”believers”). Satan also works, with lying wonders, even bringing down fire from heaven in the sight of men.” 4SP:430; GC:612.

“Now the rays of light penetrate everywhere [GOSPEL TO ALL NATIONS], the truth is seen in its clearness, and the honest children of God sever the bands which have held them. Family connections, Church relations, are powerless to stay them now. Truth is more precious than all besides. Notwithstanding the agencies combined against the truth, a large number take their stand upon the Lord’s side.” 4SP:430; GC:612.
“Just as soon as the people of God are sealed in their foreheads -- it is not any seal or mark that can be seen, but a settling into the truth, both intellectually and spiritually, so they cannot be moved -- just as soon as God’s people are sealed and prepared for the shaking [(9A) ADVENTIST’S SEALED; SHAKING IS FOR THE FAITHFUL ONES WHO MUST BE “CALLED OUT;” SEE NUMBER 2 ABOVE], it will come. It will be the result of refusing the truth presented [WHO “REFUSES} THE TRUTH PRESENTED?”].” 2SM:13; 1SM:180; 3MR:33.
“Some, I saw, did not participate in this work of agonizing and pleading. They seemed indifferent and careless. They were not resisting the darkness around them, and it shut them in like a thick cloud. The angels of God left them, and went to the aid of those earnest, praying ones. I saw the angels of God hasten to the assistance of all those who were struggling with all their energies to resist those evil angels, and trying to help themselves by calling upon God with perseverance. But the angels left those who made no effort to help themselves, and I lost sight of them.
“As these praying ones continued their earnest cries, at times a ray of light from Jesus came to them, and encouraged their hearts, and lighted up their countenances.
“I asked the meaning of the shaking I had seen. I was shown that it would be caused by the straight testimony [IS THIS THE SHAKING?] called forth by the counsel of the true Witness to the Laodiceans. It will have its effect upon the heart of the receiver of the testimony, and it will lead to him to exalt the standard and pour forth the straight truth. This straight testimony [THIS IS THE SHAKING] some will not bear. They will rise up against it, and this will causea shaking among God’s people.” 1SG:184.

“An angel returning from the earth announces that his work is done, that the seal of God has been placed upon His people.” 4SP:431.

“But not one is made to feel the wrath of God until the truth has been brought in contact with his mind and conscience, and has been rejected. . . The decree [DEATH DECREE] is not to be urged upon the people blindly. Every one is to have sufficient light to make his decision intelligently.” 4SP:423.
“[431] When the third message closes, mercy no longer pleads for the guilty inhabitants of the earth. “So when the irrevocable decision of the sanctuary has been pronounced [CLOSE OF PROBATION] and the destiny of the world has been forever fixed, the inhabitants of the earth will know it not.” GC:615.
“As Satan influenced Esau to march against Jacob, so he will stir up the wicked to destroy God’s people in the time of trouble. . . He sees that holy angels are guarding them, and he infers that their sins have been pardoned; but he does not know that their cases have been decided in the sanctuary above.” 4SP:435; GC:618.
“Their sins have gone beforehand to judgment and have been [PAST TENSE] blotted out [CLOSE OF PROBATION], and they cannot bring them to remembrance.” 4SP:438; GC:620.
“When Christ stands up, and leaves the Most Holy Place, then the time of trouble commences, and the case of every soul is decided, and there will be no atoning blood to cleanse from sin and pollution.” 1SP:123; 3SG:134.
“When Jesus leaves The Most Holy, His restraining Spirit is withdrawn from rulers and people. They are left to the control of evil angels. Then such laws [SUNDAY LAW; and others] will be made by the counsel and direction of Satan, that unless time should be very short, no flesh could be saved. I saw that the four angels would hold the four winds until Jesus’ work was done in the Sanctuary, and then will come the seven last plagues. These plagues enraged the wicked against the righteous; they thought that we had brought the judgments of God upon them, and that if they could rid the earth of us, the plagues would then be stayed. A decree [DEATH DECREE ENFORCED] went forth to slay the saints, which caused them to cry day and night for deliverance. This was the time of Jacob’s trouble.” MAR:268.

“When he [Jesus] leaves the Sanctuary, darkness covers the inhabitants of the earth. In that fearful time [TIME OF TROUBLE] the righteous must live in the sight of a Holy God without an intercessor. The restraint which has been upon the wicked is removed, and Satan has entire control of the finally impenitent. . . The people of God are then plunged [PRESENT TENSE] into those scenes of affliction and distress described by the prophet as the time of Jacob’s trouble.” 4SP:432; GC:614.
“. . . the time of trouble must take place before the [SECOND] Coming of Christ. . . for the time of trouble must come before the [SECOND] Coming of Christ.” 1T:72.
“The people of God will then be plunged into those scenes of affliction and distress described by the prophet as the time of Jacob’s trouble [This is not correct, for two pages earlier {page 614; see above}they were already at this point in this mixed up version of “The Great Controversy”].” GC:616.
“Just before we entered it [THE TIME OF TROUBLE], we all received the seal of the Living God [144,000 SEALED; NUMBER 11]. Then I saw the four angels cease to hold the four winds. And I saw famine, pestilence and sword [SATAN’S PLAGUES?], nation rose against nation, and the whole world was in confusion.” (Day-Star, March 14, 1846) 7BC:968.
“When the time of trouble comes, every case is decided [CLOSE OF PROBATION]; there is no longer probation, no longer mercy for the impenitent. The seal of the Living God is [PRESENT/PAST TENSE] upon His people. This small remnant, unable to defend themselves in the deadly conflict with the powers of earth that are marshaled by the dragon host, make God their defense. The decree has been passed [DEATH DECREE ISSUED; NOT CARRIED OUT YET] by the highest earthly authority that they shall worship the beast and receive his mark under pain of persecution and death.” 5T:213.
“Yet for the elect’s sake, the time of trouble will be shortened. The end will come more quickly than men expect.” 4SP:447.
“It was impossible for the plagues to be poured out while Jesus officiated in the Sanctuary; but as His work there is finished, and His intercession closes [CLOSE OF PROBATION], there is nothing to stay the wrath of God [TIME OF TROUBLE].” EW:280.
(14) False Christ’s; Miracles, Signs and Wonders (Satanic; Bad): 4SP:441-442 -- Deuteronomy 13:1-3; Matthew 24:23-28; Mark 13:21-22; Second Thessalonians 2:3-4 & 9; Revelation 13:13-14; 16:14.
“Fearful sights of a supernatural character will soon be revealed in the heavens, in token of the power of miracle-working demons.” GC:624.
“The spirits of devils will go forth to the kings of the earth and to the whole world. Rulers and subjects will be alike deceived. Persons will arise pretending to be Christ, and claiming the title and the worship which belong to the world’s Redeemer. They will perform wonderful miracles of healing, and will profess to have revelations from Heaven contradicting the testimony of the Scriptures.” 4SP:441.2; GC:624.

“As the crowning act in the great drama of deception, Satan himself will attempt to personate Christ.” 4SP:442; GC:624.
“ ‘And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.’ [Mat. 24:11]. False prophets and false Christ’s did arise, deceiving the people, and leading great numbers into the desert. Magicians and sorcerers, claiming miraculous power, drew the people after them into the mountain solitudes. But this prophecy was spoken also for the last days. This sign is a sign of the Second Advent. Satanic agencies will be prepared to deceive and to delude.” ST, February 20, 1901.
“Coming as an angel of light, claiming to be the Christ, he will deceive the world. But his triumph will be short.” 6BC:1106.
“As the Second Appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ draws near [FUTURE TENSE], satanic agencies are moved from beneath. Satan will not only appear as a human being, but he will personate Jesus Christ.” RH April 14, 1896.
(16) Satan’s Plagues: 4SP:(441) 444 -- Matthew 24:24; Mark 13:22; Revelation 13:14 (First Miracle Is Fire From heaven; NOTE: TOO LATE; During The Close Of Probation).
“[407] While appearing to the children of men as a great physician who can heal all their maladies, he will bring disease and disaster until populous cities are reduced to ruin and desolation. Even now he is at work. In accidents and calamities by sea and by land, in great conflagrations, in fierce tornadoes and terrific hailstorms, in tempests, floods, cyclones, tidal waves, and earthquakes, in every place and in a thousand forms, is Satan exercising his power. He sweeps away the ripening harvest, and famine [408]
“and distress follow. He imparts to the air a deadly taint [PRESENT TENSE], and thousands perish by the pestilence. These visitations are to become more and more frequent and disastrous. Destruction will be upon the inhabitants of the world. The beasts of the field will groan, and the earth will languish.” [NOTE THE PAGE NUMBERS] 4SP:407-408.
“The miracle-working power manifested through Spiritualism will exert its influence against those who choose to obey God rather than men.” 4SP:409.
“The wrath of Satan increases as his time grows short, and his work of deceit and destruction reaches its culmination in [DURING] the time of trouble. God’s long-suffering has ended. The world has rejected His mercy, despised His Love, and trampled upon His Law. The wicked have passed the boundary of their probation [PROBATION CLOSED], and the Lord withdraws His protection, and leaves them to the mercy of the leader they have chosen. Satan will have power over those who have yielded themselves to his control, and he will [FUTURE TENSE] plunge the inhabitants of the earth into one great, final trouble [Satan’s Plagues].” 4SP:441; GC:614.
“Satan will continue to act a double part. Appearing [VISIBLE] to be the dispenser of great blessings and Divine truths [IMPERSONATING CHRIST], he will, by his lying wonders [SATAN’S MIRACLES], hold the world under his control; and at the same time he will indulge his malignity by causing distress and destruction, and will accuse God’s people as the cause of the fearful convulsions of nature and the strife and bloodshed among men which are [PRESENT TENSE] desolating the earth.” 4SP:444.
This statement as found in EW:36-37, is talking about God’s Plagues (#18), but any plague (i.e., Satan’s would “enrage[d] the wicked;” remembering that Ellen White is not always in order of events in this book): “[36] I saw that the four angels would hold the four winds until Jesus’ work was done [CLOSE OF PROBATION] in the Sanctuary, and then will come the seven last plagues. “In the last conflict the Sabbath will be the special point of controversy throughout all Christendom. Secular rulers and religious leaders will unite to enforce the observance of the Sunday; and as milder measures fail, the most oppressive laws will be enacted. It will be urged that the few who stand in opposition to an institution of the church and a law of the land ought not to be tolerated, and a decree will finally be issued denouncing them as deserving of the severest punishment, and giving the people liberty, after a certain time [FUTURE TENSE], to put them to death.” 4SP:444.2; GC:615.
“In some cases, before the time specified in the decree, enemies will rush upon the waiting ones to put them to death.” 4SP:447.
“Those who are distrustful of self, who are humbling themselves before God and purifying their souls by obeying the truth, -- these are receiving the heavenly mold, and preparing for the seal of God in their foreheads. When the decree goes forth [CLOSE OF PROBATION - 12], and the stamp is impressed, their character will remain pure and spotless for eternity.” 5T:216.1; CET:191.1; FLB:288; Mar:240.6.
“[121] In the last great conflict of the controversy with Satan those who are loyal to God will see every earthly support cut off. Because they refuse [122]
“to break His Law in obedience to earthly powers, they will be forbidden to buy or sell. It will finally be decreed that they shall be put to death.” DA:121-122.
“I saw a writing, and copies of it scattered in different parts of the land, giving orders, that unless the saints should yield their peculiar faith, give up the Sabbath, and observe the first day, they were at liberty, after such a time, to put them to death.” 1SG:201.
(18) God’s Plagues: 4SP:446 (409 & 422) -- Luke 21:23; Revelation, Chapter 16.
“Those who honor the Bible Sabbath will be [FUTURE TENSE] denounced as enemies of law and order, as breaking down the moral restraints of society, causing anarchy and corruption, and calling down the judgments of God upon the earth.” 4SP:409; GC:502.
“But God still has a people in Babylon; and before the visitation of His judgments [FUTURE TENSE], these faithful ones must be called out, that they ‘partake not of her sins, and receive not of her plagues.’” 4SP:422; GC:604.
“While God’s judgments are visited upon the earth [GOD’S PLAGUES], and the wicked are dying from hunger and thirst, angels provide the righteous with food and water.” 4SP:446.
“[627] When Christ ceases His intercession in the Sanctuary, the unmingled wrath threatened against those who worship the beast and his image and receive his mark (Revelation 14:9, 10), will be poured out [FUTURE TENSE]. The plagues upon Egypt when God was about to deliver Israel were similar in character to those [628]
“more terrible and extensive judgments which are to fall upon the world just before the final deliverance of God’s people. Says the revelator, in describing those terrific scourges: ‘There fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshiped his image.’ The sea ‘became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.’ And ‘the rivers and fountains of waters. . . became blood.’ Terrible as these inflictions [GOD’S PLAGUES] are, God’s justice stands fully vindicated. The angel of God declares: ‘Thou art righteous, O Lord. . . because Thou hast judged thus. For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and Thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.’ Revelation 16:2-6. By condemning the people of God to death, they have as truly incurred the guilt of their blood as if it had been shed by their hands. In like manner Christ declared the Jews of His time guilty of all the blood of holy men which had been shed since the days of Abel; for they possessed the same spirit and were seeking to do the same work with these murderers of the prophets.

“Others are defended by angels in the form of men of war.” 4SP:447.2; GC631.1.
“Four mighty angels hold back the powers of this earth till the servants of God are sealed in their foreheads. The nations of the world are eager for conflict, but they are held in check by the angels. When this restraining power is removed there will come a time of trouble and anguish. Deadly instruments of warfare will be invented. Vessels with their living cargo will be entombed in the great deep. All who have not the spirit of truth will unite under the leadership of Satanic agencies, but they are to be kept under control till the time shall come for the great battle of Armageddon.” 7BC:967 (1900); LDE:238.3.
“Then I saw the four angels cease to hold the four winds. And I saw famine, pestilence and sword, nation rose against nation, and the whole world was in confusion.” 7BC:968.
Form 6T:406 [see also the same in (MS 172, 1899); 7BC:982; and read RH, May 7, 1901], we read: “The battle of Armageddon is soon to be fought, He on whose vesture is written the name, King of kings and Lord of lords, is soon to lead forth the armies of Heaven.”
From RH, May 7, 1901; LDE:249-250; 7BC:982-983 we read: “Two great opposing powers are revealed in the last great battle. On the one side stands the Creator of Heaven and earth. All on His side bear His signet. They are obedient to His Commands. On the other side stands the prince of darkness, with those who have chosen apostasy and rebellion.”
Continuing on from 7BC:983 we read: “But providence has a part to act in the battle of Armageddon. . . the religious elements, good and evil, will awake from slumber, and the armies of the Living God will take the field. . . Satan is also mustering his forces of evil. . . to gather them under his banner, to be trained for ‘the battle of that great day of God Almighty.’ ”
“Four mighty angels are still holding the four winds of the earth. Terrible destruction is forbidden to come in full. The. . . winds will be the stirring up of the nations to one deadly combat, while the angels hold the four winds, forbidding the terrible power of Satan to be exercised in its fury until the servants of God are sealed in their foreheads.” Mar:175.2.
And lastly we read: “Every form of evil is to spring into intense activity. Evil angels unite their powers with evil men, and as they have been in constant conflict and attained an experience in the best modes of deception and battle, and have been strengthening for centuries, they will not yield the last great final contest without a desperate struggle. All the world will be on one side or the other of the question. The battle of Armageddon will be fought, and that day must find none of us sleeping. “[353] I saw that God will in a wonderful manner preserve His people through the time of trouble. As Jesus poured out His soul in agony in the garden, they will earnestly cry and agonize day and night for deliverance. The decree will go forth that they must disregard the Sabbath of the Fourth Commandment, and honor the first day, or lose their lives; but they will not yield, and trample under their feet the Sabbath of the Lord, and honor an institution of papacy. Satan’s host and wicked men will surround them, and exult over them, because there will seem to be no way of escape for them. “In the midst of their terror they hear the voices of the saints in joyful strains exclaiming: ‘Lo, this is our God; we have waited for Him, and He will save us.’ Isaiah 25:9. Amid the reeling of the earth, the flash of lightning, and the roar of thunder, the voice of the Son of God calls forth the sleeping saints. He looks upon the graves of the righteous, then, raising His hands to Heaven, He cries: “Awake, awake, awake, ye that sleep in the dust, and arise!’ [Eph. 5:14.]” GC:644.
