A) INTRODUCTION
Credit for this dissertation goes to Dr. Kurt Wise. After the invention of the microscope, it has been proven that all life begins as a single cell organism. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
B) ARISTOTLE AND SPONTANEOUS GENERATION
Aristotle and other Greek thinkers promoted and believed that living things came from non-living things. Such as a crocodile came from floating logs; mice came from rotting hay; magots came from rotten meat. This theory later became known as “Spontaneous Generation.”
C) FRANCESCO REDI
The theory of “Spontaneous Generation” began to be seriously challenged in 1668 A.D. by Francesco Redi (1626-1697), which after his death, lasted for about 200 years. Redi conducted an experiment to disprove “Spontaneous Generation” using his proponent’s favorite substance -- meat.
He took three containers and placed them outside in the elements (due to the stink that was going to occur). One was sealed with the meat inside, another was covered with very small netting (like cheese cloth), and the third was left wide open to the air. As he expected and proved with this experiment, maggots only appeared in the container that was completely open to the outside air. He therefore was able to conclude from this observation, that flies, coming into the open jar, laid their eggs onto the rotting meat (since he could not see their eggs).
Thus, it was concluded by most scientists of the time, that flies did deposit their eggs onto the meat. In other words, life comes from life; and not life from non-life. And a few centuries later, when the telescope was invented, fly eggs could be seen on the meat, verifying Redi’s experiments.
D) THE END OF SPONTANEOUS GENERATION
Actually, this only encouraged the “Spontaneous Generation” scientists to find another way to disprove Francesco Redi’s theory from about 1668-1862 A.D. Why? Because the microscope had opened up to science an entire world that nobody had ever seen before. And some of those things being seen in the water seemed to be coming from out of nothing into the water (Get a bigger microscope). Thus, although it was admitted that things like an elephant did come from a single cell organism, these tiny creatures did not. Let the silliness begin.
E) LAZZARO SPALLANZANI
The “Spontaneous Generation Theory” was hoped to be silenced permanently by Spallanzani, when in 1768 A.D., he made up his batch of home-made broth. Just like the meat experiment, if you leave the broth out in the open air it goes bad; and that it becomes full of tiny little one celled organisms. However, when Spallanzani observed under the microscope his boiled finished produce, there were no microorganisms in the broth. But letting it sit there for a while, after cooling off, tiny microorganisms seemed to appear out of nowhere.
Therefore, Spallanzani made his broth again, this time sealing it in a jar. To not his surprise, no microorganisms appeared in his sealed jars. Therefore, he concluded that the open jars came from life in the open air that could not be seen. Life comes from life.
F) THE FRENCH GOVERNMENT
Spallanzani’s experiment prompted the French Government to offer a prize to anyone who could prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that microorganisms come from microorganisms. Or, prove that “Spontaneous Generation” is true. Still offering a prize!
G) LOUIS PASTEUR
It wasn’t until about one hundred years later that the challenge of the French Government was taken up by Louis Pasteur (1822-1895) in 1862 A.D. He took glass jars with long necks on them (tube like), with some of the jars having a wave in them in order to trap water between the broth he would put in the jars and the others with just a straight tube leading to the broth.
Technically, with the jar’s broth being blocked by water, air could still get to the broth through the water, but no microorganism could survive to get through the water into the broth. In fact, he left the jars of broth out for months and a year and no life formed into the broth. But as soon as he opened up the broth to the air, it began to go bad (full of microorganisms). Thus, it was proved that even the tiny little microorganisms were coming from life. Pasteurconcluded that every organism on the planet comes from another organism.
H) SPONTANEOUS GENERATION REPLACED BY BIOGENESIS
“Bio” means “Life,” whereas “Genesis,” means “Origin of life.” Thus, “The Origin Of Life.” Called the “Law of Biogenesis,” it translates to, “Organisms only come from the same kind of organism,” or, “Life only comes from life.” More specifically, organisms only come from the same kind (species; whatever word floats your boat) organism. Concluding that life can only come from life; not from non-living things.
Every test, experiment, what-have-you, has always concluded with the fact that “Life comes from life.” But to the unrepentant mind, “has this always been true?
I) WHERE THE FIRST LIFE CAME FROM
This brings us back to “Spontaneous Generation” people who want to believe that life came from non-life, even though no one has ever observed this (no scientific proof). Thus, Whoever/Whatever (God as an example) created life in the first place from out of nothing, must be reckoned with.
No matter what your view is, everyone agrees that somewhere back in time, a long, long, ago, there was a period when there was no life. Or for that matter, no matter. For those who use matter in any form to get to life, they must ask themselves, “Where did the matter come from?” For those who designate a Divine Being, they have a credible answer to, “Where The First Life Came From.”
For those who still insist upon using a material from which they cannot explain where it came from, they use the “Naturalism” scientific term of, “Abiogenesis.” “A” meaning “Not;” while “Bio” means “life,” and “Genesis” means “Beginning.” In translation they believe, “Life beginning from non-life,” once again promoting “Spontaneous Generation,” contrary to what has been demonstrated and proven as “The Law of Biogenesis.” You just can’t help some people (or reason with them).
J) BOTTOM LINE
The Bible (God’s Word) has been 100% correct, is 100% correct, and most likely will be 100% correct about the future. However, that last part makes It a belief system. In Contrast, “Spontaneous Generation,” which has NEVER been scientifically proven, observed, or demonstrated fully (100% worked; but maybe partially with errors), it also is a belief system. Choose the right one.
