WE SHOULD LIVE TO
BLESS OTHERS

A) INTRODUCTION.

B) BLESSING OTHERS WITH MONEY.

C) BLESSING OTHERS WITH PHYSICAL POWERS.

D) BLESSING OTHERS WITH TALENTS.

A) INTRODUCTION

Selfishness is the route that turns you away from blessing others.  We should believe -- as Christians -- that we should be blessing people all of the time; whether or not they have helped us or not.  “But I say unto you, Love your enemies {Note, the “KJV” translators capitalization of “Love;” for they understood that only Godly “Love” can work through you to “Love” the unlovable}, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”  Matthew 5:44.  “Bless them which persecute you:  bless, and curse not.”  Romans 12:14.

A) BLESSING OTHERS WITH MONEY

“Money is not necessarily a curse; it is of high value, because, if rightly appropriated, it can do good in the salvation of souls; in blessing others who are poorer than ourselves.  However, he who employs money to gratify pride and ambition makes it a curse rather than a blessing.  Money is a constant test of the affections.  Whoever acquires more than sufficient for his real needs should seek wisdom and grace to know his own heart and to keep his heart diligently; lest he have imaginary wants and become an unfaithful steward, using with prodigality his Lord’s entrusted capital.

When we love God supremely, temporal things will occupy their rightful place in our affections.  If we humbly and earnestly seek for knowledge and ability in order to make a right use of our Lord’s goods, we shall receive wisdom from above in how to bless others.  Money has great value, because it can do a lot of great good.  In the hands of God’s children, it is food for the hungry, drink for the thirsty, and clothing for the naked.  It is a defense for the oppressed, and a means of help to the sick.  But money is of no more value than sand, only as it is put to use in providing for the necessities of life, in blessing others, and advancing the cause of Christ.”  AH:372.1-2.

B) BLESSING OTHERS WITH PHYSICAL POWERS

“[346] The misuse of our physical powers shortens the period of time in which our lives can be used for the glory of God; and it unfits us to accomplish the work God has given us to do.  By allowing ourselves to form wrong habits, by keeping late hours, by gratifying appetite at the expense of health, we lay the foundation for feebleness.  By neglecting physical exercise, by overworking mind or body, we unbalance the nervous system.  Those who thus shorten their lives and unfit themselves for service by disregarding Nature’s Laws, are guilty of robbery toward God.  Also, by so doing, we are also robbing our fellow man.  The opportunity of blessing others, the very work for which God sent us into the world to do, has by our own course of action been cut short by these wrongful habits.  Thus, we unfit ourselves to do even that which in a briefer period of time we might have accomplished.  The Lord holds us guilty when by our injurious habits we thus deprive the world of the good we could have done.

“[347] Transgression of Physical Law is transgression of the Moral Law; for God is as truly the Author of the physical Laws as He is the Author of the Moral Law.  All who profess to be followers of Jesus should feel that a duty rests upon them to preserve their bodies in the best condition of health; that their minds may be clear to comprehend Heavenly things.  The mind needs to be controlled; for it has a most powerful influence upon the health.  The imagination often misleads, and when indulged, brings severe forms of disease upon the afflicted.  Many, by so doing, place themselves in a position such that they can die of diseases, which can even be mostly imaginary.”  COL:346-347.

C) BLESSING OTHERS WITH TALENTS

Another blessing to be considered is that all can teach.  God has given everyone a certain talent.  Discover what it is and do not hide it.

“Let not the youth be ignored; let them share in the labor and responsibility.  Let them feel that they have a part to act in helping and blessing others.  Even the children should be taught to do little errands of love and mercy for those less fortunate than themselves.”  6T:435.3.

“Parents should teach their children the value and right use of time.  Teach them that to do something which will honor God and bless humanity, is worth striving for.  Even in their early years they can be missionaries for God.”  COL:345:3.

We can bless others with our mouths.  “Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing.  My brethren, these things ought not so to be.”  James 3:10.  Our speech should be that of a pure speech, always seeking ways to uplift others spirits with helpful and kind words.  “Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing:  but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.”  First Peter 3:9.  The power and ability in order to be ready at all times to do this lies in our attitude.

I find for myself that I must be in constant communion with my Lord in order to keep my attitude in a state that will bless others, let alone my own health and happiness.  “And were continually in the Temple, praising and blessing God.  Amen.”  Luke 24:53.  “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in Heavenly places in Christ.”  Ephesians 1:3.
