The Gifts Of The Holy Spirit

(Note: Not To Be Confused With,

The Fruits Of The Spirit)

A) WHY THE GIFTS?

B) TO THE GIFTS.

C) A LIST OF GIFTS.

A) WHY THE GIFTS

Why are these “gifts” given?  “For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.”  Ephesians 4:12.  Any other use of these “gifts” can be considered as not a “Gift of The Spirit.”  Also that: “(18) The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of His calling, and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, (19) And what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of His mighty power.”  Ephesians 1:18-19.

And a little common sense.  Even our Mormon friends figured this out.  I quote from “Mormon,” 9:9:  “For do we not read that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and in Him there is no variableness neither shadow of changing?  And if there were miracles wrought then, why has God ceased to be a God of miracles and yet be an unchangeable Being?”  And “Mormon,” 9:19:  “And behold, I say unto you He changeth not; if so He would cease to be God, and He ceaseth not to be God, and is a God of miracles.”

B) TO THE GIFTS

“And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.”  Exodus 31:3.

“And He hath filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.”  Exodus 35:31.

“And I will come down and talk with thee there:  and I will take of the Spirit which is upon thee, and will put It upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.” (25) “And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the Spirit that was upon him, and gave It unto the seventy elders:  and it came to pass, that, when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.”  Numbers 11:17, 25.

“Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad:  for who is able to judge this thy so great a people. . . And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment; Behold, I have done according to thy words:  lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.”  First Kings 3:9, 11-12.

“Thou gavest also Thy Good Spirit to instruct them, and withheldest not Thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them water for their thirst.”  Nehemiah 9:20.

“As God liveth, Who hath taken away my judgment; and the Almighty, Who hath vexed my soul.”  Job 27:2.

“And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD:  and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears.”  Isaiah 11:2-3.

“The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary:  He wakeneth morning by morning, He wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.”  Isaiah 50:4.

“As for Me, this is My covenant with them, saith the LORD; My Spirit that is upon thee, and My Words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.”  Isaiah 59:21.

“Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering:  or he that teacheth, on teaching; Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation:  he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.”  Romans 12:6-8.

“That in every thing ye are enriched by Him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge.”  First Corinthians 1:5.

“For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; (9) To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; (10) To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues.”  First Corinthians 12:8-10.

“And God hath set some in the Church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.  Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?”  First Corinthians 12:28.

“And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.”  First Corinthians 13:2.

“Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.”  Second Corinthians 8:7.

“Different gifts are imparted to different ones [WHY?], that the workers may feel their need of one another.  God bestows these gifts, and they are employed in His service, not to glorify the possessor, not to uplift man, but to [WHY?] uplift the world’s Redeemer.”  ST, March 15, 1910.
