FOR THOSE
CONSIDERING SUICIDE
A) GOD IS LOVE (First John 4:8).
B) THOUGHT PROCESSES.
C) YOU.
A) GOD IS LOVE (First John 4:8)
First, there needs to be an understanding that no matter what the world may tell you, no matter what your so-called friends may tell you, no matter what your family may tell you, no matter what voices in your head that are telling you that you are worthless or unlovable, DON’T BELIEVE THEM!
Second, you are a child of the Living God, made in “the image of God,” Genesis 1:27; 9:9; Second Corinthians 4:4. That has tremendous meaning to your Heavenly Father, and people that value human life (you can make friends). Our Lord states: “Come now, and let us reason together,” Isaiah 1:18. That is not a God that does not take a personal interest in each individual life He has created.
Third, in Isaiah 41:21, God attempts to reason with your considering suicide by stating: “Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your strong reasons.” In other words, “Why are you considering this route in your life when I God, have provided everything for you to succeed (should you put behind yourself everything that got you to this point in your life).”
Fourth, do not be so stubborn that you will not attempt to argue with God about your circumstances. Job 13:3 puts it this way: “Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.”
B) THOUGHT PROCESSES
Suicide is a desperate attempt to escape suffering that has become unbearable. Blinded by feelings of self-loathing, hopelessness, and isolation, a suicidal person (YOU) can’t see any way of finding relief except through death. The only desire has now come to the forefront, and to a point for you to just have the pain go away.
Most suicidal people (YOU) are not psychotic or insane. They (YOU) are upset, grief-stricken, depressed, or despairing, but extreme distress and emotional pain are not necessarily signs of mental illness.
Even a very severely depressed person has mixed feelings about death, fluctuating between wanting to live and wanting to die. Rather than wanting death, they (YOU) just want the pain to stop -- and the impulse to end their (YOUR) life does not last forever.
Finally, talking openly and honestly about suicidal thoughts and feelings can help save a (YOUR) life. God “pleads” with you: “I call Heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:” Deuteronomy 30:19.
C) YOU
Studies have found that hopelessness is a strong predictor of suicide. IF YOU feel hopeless YOU may talk about “unbearable” feelings, predict a “bleak future,” and state that YOU have nothing to look forward to. Nothing could be further from the truth.
God has plans for you. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Jeremiah 29:11.
In conclusion: There is ALWAYS someone who cares about you somewhere in your life. Start there. There is nothing better than a friend who cares. Be Blessed.
