A) A LIVING SOUL
(See my Bible Study: “DEATH, THE BIBLICAL TRUTH ABOUT”).
In Genesis 1:20; 1:21; 1:24; 1:30; 2:19; 9:10; 9:12; 9:15; 9:16; Leviticus 11:46; we have the statement, “living soul” [Hebrew = “nephesh hayyah”], and in Revelation 16:3, the statement “living soul” [Greek = “zao psuche”], refers to animals. However, translators of most English versions have chosen to translate it “living creature” rather than “living soul,” as it should be; for it is the same Hebrew structure as in Genesis 2:7, where man is referred to as a “living soul.” We learn from Genesis 2:7, that a body, plus God’s breath (together), equals a “living soul.”
Also notice that the animals were also created “out of the ground,” Genesis 2:19. Once again this emphasizes substance, plus God’s breath, equaling a “living soul.” However, see Ecclesiastes 3:19-21 which clearly states that man’s soul can go to Heaven, while animal’s soul’s go back to dust.
B) KINDNESS TO ANIMALS
For Kindness to animals admonished in the Bible, see: Genesis 33:13-14; Deuteronomy 25:4; Psalm 104:25-28; 145:15-16; 147:9; Proverbs 12:10; Isaiah 66:3; Jonah 4:11; Matthew 6:26; Luke 12:24; First Corinthians 9:9; First Timothy 5:18.
According to Leviticus 17:3-4: A man that “[3] killeth an [animal -- any]. . . [4] bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle” = Here is a clear illustration of the care of animals that our Lord has. In other words, we are not to kill animals for no other purpose than for sacrifice (foreshadowing of our Lord’s sacrifice) and for the Biblically proscribed diet as listed in Leviticus, the Eleventh Chapter, and Deuteronomy, the Fourteenth Chapter. See my Bible Study: “DIET, DINNING GOD’S WAY.”

D) A LITTLE HISTORY AND AMALGAMATION
Originally Adam named all of these listed above (Genesis 2:19-20).
According to Genesis 3:21, the first sacrificial lamb was done (else, where did their “coats” come from) to show the future Sacrifice that was to be accomplished for their [our] sins.
In Genesis 4:2 & 4, we learn that “Abel was a keeper of sheep,” meaning that they did not of themselves come to him or Cain when they called to them. Thus, the fear of men may have begun. If we also look at Genesis 6:7 & 12-13, we can see that the beasts (animals) were wicked also, for God needed to destroy them along with mankind.
If we go to Genesis 6:21, we can see that Noah was to provide “food for thee, and for them (the animals) in the ark. In other words, take care of them.
In Genesis 9:2, we have a definite fact given, that from now on all the animals would be afraid of mankind.
And in Genesis 9:3, we have our first permission from God that mankind can eat animals. However, we should take particular notice about the longevity of mankind diminishing considerably after the introduction of animals into mankinds diet. Pre-flood average age was around 900 years; as opposed to around 160 years Post-flood, to around 90 years (maybe) today.
“But if there was one sin above another which called for the destruction of the race by the flood, it was the base crime of amalgamation of man and beast which defaced the image of God, and caused confusion everywhere.” 1SP:69; 3SG:64.
“Every species of animals which God had created was preserved in the ark. The confused species which God did not create, which were the result of amalgamation, were destroyed by the flood. Since the flood, there has been amalgamation of man and beast, as may be seen in the almost endless varieties of species of animals, and in certain races of men.” 1SP:78; 3SG:75. This statement most likely covers dinosaurs; which were destroyed in the flood. Check the fossil record if you disagree.
E) FROM MY FAVORITE BIBLE COMMENTATOR
“The dumb animals have no souls {IN REGARDS TO SALVATION}, yet God cares for them. ‘Are ye not much better than they?’ Christ asks.” GCB, October 1, 1899 par. 3. THERE YOU HAVE IT! OUR LORD TELLS YOU WHO IS OF MORE VALUE.
“Some who have not children of their own should educate themselves to love and care for the children of others. They may not be called to go to a foreign field of labor, but they may be called to work in the very locality in which they live. In place of giving so much attention to pets, lavishing affection upon dumb animals, let them exercise their talent upon human beings who have a Heaven to win and a hell to shun.” AH:168.
“In households and in schools the education of children should not be like the training of dumb animals; for children have an intelligent will, which should be directed to control all their powers. The dumb animals need to be trained; for they have not reason and intellect. The human mind must be taught self-control. It must be educated to rule the human being, while the animal is controlled by the master. The beast is trained to be submissive to his master. The master is mind, judgment, and will for his beast. A child may be so trained as to have, like the beast, no will of his own. His individuality may even be submerged in the one who superintends his training, and the will is, to all intents and purposes, subject to the will of the teacher. {CE:6.1}
“Children who are thus educated will ever be deficient in moral energy and individual responsibility. They have not been taught to move from reason and principle. Their will was controlled by another, and the mind was not called out, that it might expand and strengthen by exercise. They were not directed and disciplined with respect to their peculiar constitution and capabilities of mind, to put forth their strongest powers when required.” CE:6.1-6.2; FE:15-16.
“Societies are formed in our cities for the prevention of cruelty to dumb animals. It would be well to go still further, and, inasmuch as accountable intelligences, capable of obtaining life eternal, are of more value than the dumb beasts, there is greater need of societies to prevent the cruelty of mothers. . .” HL:149.1.
“The Lord set needy human beings before the beasts; but this order has been reversed there, and, compared with the poor, horses, dogs, and other dumb animals are treated as princes.” HS:165.2.
“In the great cities are multitudes who receive less care and consideration than are given to dumb animals.”
MH:189.
“[315] The intelligence displayed by many dumb animals approaches so closely to human intelligence that it is a mystery. The animals see and hear and love and fear and suffer. They use their organs far more faithfully than many human beings use theirs. They manifest sympathy and tenderness toward [316]
“their companions in suffering. Many animals show an affection for those who have charge of them, far superior to the affection shown by some of the human race. They form attachments for man which are not broken without great suffering to them.
“What man with a human heart, who has ever cared for domestic animals, could look into their eyes, so full of confidence and affection, and willingly give them over to the butcher’s knife? How could he devour their flesh as a sweet morsel?” MH:315-316.
“A disposition to cause pain, whether to our fellowmen or to the brute creation, is satanic. Many do not realize that their cruelty will ever be known, because the poor dumb animals cannot reveal it. But could the eyes of these men be opened, as were those of Balaam, they would see an angel of God standing as a witness to testify against them in the courts above. A record goes up to Heaven, and a day is coming when judgment will be pronounced against those who abuse God’s creatures.” PP:443 (1890); 2MCP:514.3.
“The Lord would have His people realize that the blessings bestowed upon any object of creation are proportionate to the place that object occupies in the scale of creation. If even the wants of dumb animals are supplied, can we appreciate the blessings which God will bestow upon the beings formed in His image?” SD:139.4.
“Instead of giving attention to pets, lavishing affection upon dumb animals, let them give their attention to little children, whose characters they may fashion after the Divine similitude. Place your love upon the homeless members of the human family. See how many of these children you can bring up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Many would thus be greatly benefited themselves.” WM:228.3; MH:203-204.
“[426] Many children are left to come up with less attention from their parents than a good farmer devotes to his dumb animals. Fathers, especially, are often guilty of manifesting less care for wife and children than that shown to their cattle. A merciful farmer will take time, and devote especial thought as to the best manner of managing his stock, and will be particular that his valuable horses shall not be overworked, overfed, or fed when heated, lest they be ruined. He will take time and care for his stock, lest they be injured by neglect, exposure, or any improper treatment, and his increasing young stock depreciate in value. He will observe regular periods for their eating, and will know the amount of work they can perform without injuring them. In order to accomplish this, he will provide them only the most healthful food, in proper quantities, and at stated periods. By thus following the dictates of reason, farmers are successful in preserving the strength of their beasts. If the interest of every father, for his wife and children, corresponded to that care manifested for his cattle, in that degree that their lives are more valuable than the dumb animals, there would be an entire reformation in every family, and human misery be far less. [427]
“Great care should be manifested by parents in providing the most healthful articles of food for themselves and for their children. And in no case should they place before their children food which their reason teaches them is not conducive to health, but which would fever the system, and derange the digestive organs. Parents do not study from cause to effect in regard to their children, as in the case of their dumb animals and do not reason that to overwork, to eat after violent exercise, and when much exhausted, and heated, will injure the health of human beings, as well as the health of dumb animals, and will lay the foundation for a broken constitution in man, as well as the beasts.
“If parents or children eat frequently, irregularly, and in too great quantities, even of the most healthful food, it will injure the constitution; but in addition to this, if the food is of an improper quality, and prepared with grease and indigestible spices, the result will be far more injurious. The digestive organs will be severely taxed, and exhausted nature will be left a poor chance to rest, and recover strength, and the vital organs soon become impaired, and break down. If care and regularity is considered needful for dumb animals, it is as much more essential for human beings, formed in the image of their Maker, as they are of more value than the dumb creation.” 2SM:426-427.
